ABOUT US

Our Story

Rainbow Grill first opened in 1946 under the vision of Earl Zuidema.  When first opened, the restaurant consisted of many multi-colored glass tiles in its entryway, hence the name Rainbow Grill. In 1954, Ted and Helen Zondervan purchased Rainbow Grill.

It has been in the Zondervan family ever since and is now on its third generation, with Doug and Bev Zondervan (Ted and Helen's son) and John and Heidi Zondervan (Ted and Helen's grandson, Doug and Bev's son) carrying out the Rainbow Grill vision.

Rainbow Grill has gone through many expansions and changes over the years.  From starting with one table and seven barstools to becoming a popular carhop, to what it is today, a full-service casual family restaurant.

The largest expansion project took place under the direction of owners Doug and Bev Zondervan when in 2005 ground was broken for a second location in Hudsonville. Today, Rainbow Grill consists of the two locations, Grandville since 1946, and Hudsonville since 2006.
